G98 (Engineering Recommendation)
Great Britain's connection standard for small grid-tied generators up to 16 A per phase, administered through Distribution Network Operators (DNOs). SI 2026/848 creates the plug-in solar electrical route from 27 August 2026, while G98 continues to govern network connection.
Why it matters
Product compliance and network compliance are separate. The final DESNZ specification says G98 current at its July 2026 publication restricted plug-in solar to one device per household, even though the product specification can support one device per final ring circuit. Follow the current G98 and DNO process in Great Britain; application of the specification in Northern Ireland is subject to further consideration and may require amendment.
